About Dr. Melton
Dr. Melton knew she wanted to be a veterinarian from the age of five. It was just a matter of finding the time and money to accomplish her dream. As with many people, it was a long journey to get there. As an only child, her youth was spent playing with her animal "siblings". As she got older, she needed to find a way to pay for vet school. Since math and science seemed to come easy, she got a degree in Civil Engineering and spent several years as a Professional Engineer in the environmental field designing systems to clean up hazardous waste sites. This completely baffled her parents who thought she couldn't even keep her room clean as a teenager.
But after saving enough money to go back to vet school, she entered and graduated Cum Laude with her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Texas A & M University in 1998. She completed the mixed animal program and enjoyed working with small and large animals as well as exotics. She also received her National Veterinary Accreditation through the USDA to be able to issue health certificates and assist with national veterinary disease screening.
She spent the next several years training under other veterinarians and completing additional training in veterinary acupuncture and herbal therapies. She received her accreditation from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2000 and continued studying herbal medicine under Dr. Xie through the Chi Institute. She owned and operated her own veterinary practice in Cape Coral, Florida for several years, but took some time off to battle cancer, begin the raising of her three wonderful children adopted from Russia, play a little ice hockey, and provide veterinary services for nonprofit organizations and local farms.
Most recently, through the declining health of her own parents and the unavailability of at-home veterinary care for their pets, she has noticed a great need for compassionate and convenient services at home for pets and their families. Thus, Fetch A Vet was born to fulfill her vision of meeting these needs. Her main emphasis is to provide time and care not just for pets, but for their people too. Please contact us if you would like to experience this for yourself. We would be happy to meet you!
